Frequently asked questions
- Can I use AI for D&D or other tabletop RPGs?
- AdventureEngine is rules-agnostic prep for tabletop RPG one-shots and sessions. It does not replace official rulebooks or published adventures. You adapt skill checks, combat, and pacing to D&D 5e, Pathfinder, or any system you run.
- Is this a ChatGPT alternative for game masters?
- Unlike a general chatbot, AdventureEngine is built for GM booklets: structured suspects, clue threads, locations, phased beats, and print-ready PDF layout. You review and edit every section before generation.
- Which languages are supported?
- The website and booklet generation support English, German, French, Spanish, and Russian. Choose your language in the header before you start your scenario idea.
- How much does it cost?
- You can try creating a booklet for free. Additional generations use credits purchased as one-time packs — see our Pricing page for current packages and refund terms.
- Do I need an account?
- Yes. A free account is required to generate a booklet — sign in when you're ready (your scenario idea stays on this page). The same account is used to save booklets, purchase credits, and download PDFs.
- What format is the export?
- You download a print-ready A4 PDF. The on-screen preview matches the exported file — margins, booklet structure, and section order are designed for the table, not a generic text dump.
- Can I edit the AI output?
- Yes. Before you spend credits on final generation, you review the structured outline. After generation you can edit booklet sections in the app, then export the PDF.
- Who owns the generated content?
- You are responsible for how you use AI-assisted drafts at your table. See our Terms of service for license and usage terms. Do not assume commercial rights for third-party IP settings.
- Is player data or my scenario stored?
- Scenario prompts and saved booklets are stored to provide the service. See our Privacy policy for retention, processors (Clerk, Paddle, PostHog if accepted), and your rights.
- Does it work for one-shots and campaigns?
- The run guide explains how to use the booklet as a one-shot or drop a case into an ongoing campaign. Phased beats help you pace a single session or a short arc.
- How does the three-clue rule fit in?
- The engine structures multiple clue paths toward the hidden truth so players are less likely to hit dead ends. Read our blog post on automating the three-clue approach for design background.
- What kinds of one-shots work best?
- Any scenario with a clear hook, cast, locations, and phased beats — horror, heist, comedy, sci-fi, romance, war, or anything else you can describe. See our use cases page for inspiration and booklet style examples.
- Can I use it for published modules?
- Do not paste copyrighted adventure text you are not licensed to reproduce. Use your own ideas and facts you have rights to — the tool expands your prep, it does not copy published modules.
- How long does it take to prep a one-shot with AI?
- Most GMs complete the scenario idea in about five minutes, then review before generating. The booklet takes a few minutes to generate — far faster than writing NPCs, locations, and phased beats from scratch for a last-minute session.
- Can I print the GM booklet for my session?
- Yes. Export a print-ready A4 PDF designed for the table. The on-screen preview matches the download — margins, section order, and layout included. Bring it to session or read from a tablet; players should not see GM-only secrets.
- What's the difference between a one-shot prep tool and a campaign assistant?
- AdventureEngine focuses on getting a single session ready: structured NPCs, locations, phased beats, and a printable GM booklet from your idea. Campaign assistants track continuity across many sessions — a different problem. Use AdventureEngine when you need a runnable one-shot fast.
- How much does AI game master prep cost?
- You can try generating a booklet for free. Additional one-shots use credits from one-time packs — no subscription. See our Pricing page for current EUR prices, approximate booklets per pack, and refund terms.
- Is this good for last-minute session prep?
- Yes — that's a common use case. Outline your hook, cast, and locations, review the structured outline, generate the booklet, and export the PDF. Low-prep nights work best when you still want clue structure and phased beats, not improvised fluff.
